Exactly Roy. Note that I said on an "indie level" meaning with their
current aims, they aren't completely reaching the kids who get all their
music info on Mtv. I'm not sure how far they've made it in mainstream
media, but Spin magazine definitely did a big ole story on it making
Williamsburg out to be the mecca of all things new and cool in music as
if every person you run into there has rabid electroclash fever. Let's
also not forget that Peaches made it onto Mtv. Electroclash is packaged
to sell... its got beautiful people talk-singing about sex and glamour
on multiple levels of irony and its totally apolitical to boot! Turn on
the television... it fits right in.

The thing about it is that it is NOT a joke. Not at all. W.I.T. really
have made all those magazines. The "Electroclash" scene is a carefully
constructed PR stunt on an indie level and it seems to be succeeding.
"Seems" being the operative word here. You wouldn't think it was
a success if you were judging according to the IDM lists attitude
towards Electroclash. And, after all, we represent the cd buying
public (maybe more than you might think). I wonder who the intended
audience of this marketing campaign actually *is*. I am guessing
it is people like us (not the band). If you want Top 40 exposure,
and to sell millions of cd's you need it, you need the radio stations
to play your stuff, big, corporate radio stations.
